Places You Love is the biggest ever alliance of environment groups representing 56 groups and over 1.5 million members and supporters.

Our mission is to inspire Australians to protect nature.

Our alliance includes WWF-Australia, The Wilderness Society, Australian Conservation Foundation, Birdlife Australia, Humane Society International and many conservation councils and local groups around the country.

Together we have identified the need to speak to a much broader part of the Australian community. Most Australians love nature, use the natural environment and value the role of nature in our quality of life.

Nature needs our help. For all of us that appreciate the natural world, who understand that a healthy natural environment is essential for a healthy society, we need to unite around a shared vision of an Australia that looks after nature effectively. We have a lot of work to do to reconnect, to listen and discuss and to agree on a vision that unites all Australians, including government and business.

Environment groups from across the country have united to protect the laws that protect the places and wildlife we love.

Australians love nature. We live in an extraordinary country and major part of our collective wealth is our natural environment. Most of us spend time in nature for enjoyment, inspiration and a break from the modern world but nature is also essential to supporting a healthy and happy society.

In recent years both our State and Federal governments have weakened laws that safeguard Australia's most precious ecosystems.

The Places You Love Alliance is working to defend the nature protections we have, and put forward a vision for a new generation of biodiversity protections. We know we need new approaches, new thinking and new community investment to build an inclusive movement for nature.

History of group

The Places You Love Alliance started as a fight to stop the unwinding of our national nature protection laws. Now we have expanded our ambition, looking to galvanise the nature-loving Australian community to stand up for nature and bring on the changes at the scale needed to protect our environment and reverse our extinction crisis.

Our organisations are building a movement of people from across the community that exercise social and political power to stand up for nature. Australians are deeply connected to nature in a multitude of ways, and beautiful natural places are part of our national identity.

It is now time for all of us to stand together and stop the roll-back of environmental protections and stand up for new generation of national environment laws.

Australians love their country and especially their unique and extraordinary natural places and wildlife. Most of us enjoy escaping the city to recharge in the bush or by the beach. We all appreciate the healthy food and lifestyle our natural world gives us.

For many decades we have demanded governments and companies do their best to look after these incredible natural assets. In fact, Australia has a strong history of fighting to protect natural wonders – from the Franklin Dam, to Kakadu National Park and everywhere in between.

However we are now entering a political period where the protection of nature is being threatened. Governments are reversing hard fought gains while resource exploitation redefines the historical scale and scope of environmental harm.

Our Alliance is about rebuilding an active constituency for nature. You can be part of the movement to protect nature by taking part in Places You Love campaigns through our member organisations.

The Places You Love alliance is the biggest collaboration between Australian environment groups in history.
